Avoid overwhelming your users with choice

·1 min

It can be tempting to provide a range of tools for your data platform users - tools that fill every niche, so there’s always the “right tool for the job”.

But, apart from the investment needed to build and maintain those tools, you also risk overwhelming your users with choice.

This adds to the cognitive load they require to use your platform.

Which slows them down.

So, create golden paths that meet the majority of the users requirements and do it so well that your users will choose to use it rather than build and maintain their own, accepting the limitations inherit in not being the perfect tool for that job.
