The increasing capabilities of a data platform

Software engineers often have many capabilities at the platform layer that helps them deploy changes with confidence, including:

• Automated checks and integration tests
• The use of shadow and progressive rollout techniques
• Self-healing infrastructure that allows systems to identify and repair errors and misconfigurations without any human action

This allows them to spot issues and recover from them quickly before there is significant impact on the product or process they drive.

If we’re using data for critical parts of the product or to drive key business processes then we also need to start building these capabilities into the data platform.
