Don't let people plug the gaps in your processes

·1 min

Think of the processes you have in place. Which ones are reliant on a single person?

  • Maybe there’s one person who has the right permission to make infrastructure changes
  • Maybe there’s one person who must review all PRs relating to an important dataset
  • Maybe there’s one person who has the knowledge to correctly categorise data

What happens when they have some time off? Maybe it stops, or maybe someone else can step in for a few days.

When they come back from holiday, do they take that work over again? Or do they forget, causing friction.

Who’s job is this anyway?

People forget things. People make mistakes. People move on.

Don’t let people plug the gaps in your processes.
