Showing the impact of poor quality data

·1 min

The reason we talk so much about data quality is because we see the impact of it every day.

It slows us down. It increases our costs. It creates toil.

Worse than that, it prevents us from delivering what our users need.

And that has a real impact on the business.

But no one working on the source systems is intentionally creating poor quality data for you. Most of the time, they don’t even think about it.

And that’s because they don’t see or feel the impact of poor quality data.

So of course they are not going to suddenly improve the quality of data and start providing you with the data you actually need to deliver for your customer and for the business.

If you want to improve the quality of your data, at source, then you need to show the data producers the impact it will have.

That awareness helps ensure they consider the data needs when planning their projects, and incentivises them to put a bit more work in to improve the quality of their data.
