An idea becomes an idea when shared with someone else

·1 min

We’re very lucky these days that it’s so easy to connect with people around the world to collaborate and share ideas. It’s this that allows us to move and improve more quickly than ever before.

Data contracts didn’t just appear in my head as a fully formed idea. I spent a lot of time talking to people within my organisation (including those in data and those in product engineering) and a lot of people outside of my organisation, whether that’s in-person at meetups or remotely over Zoom or similar.

But things really took off with data contracts when I started writing about it. I published a blog post on Medium in December 2021 which got picked up and shared widely, introducing me to people all over the world who helped develop the idea further and turn it into something that is now an established industry pattern.

And now obviously there is this mailing list which has greatly reduced the barrier for me to share my ideas.

Today is 2 months since I started writing daily. Thanks everyone who has taken the time to reply or get in touch with me via LinkedIn! I’m really enjoying the comments and feedback 🙂
