What would Napoleon have thought about the Aeroplane?

·1 min

When I was flying back from Dublin last weekend, I had a thought about how crazy it is that I am being taken up in the sky in a metal tube with two massive jet engines on the side (I kept the thought to myself…). Then I remembered a reported quote from Napoleon Bonaparte when asked about Robert Fulton’s Steamboat:

You would make a ship sail against the winds and currents by lighting a bonfire under her deck? Excuse me; I have no time to listen to such nonsense.1

I wonder what he would have thought about the Aeroplane…
