Google to Teach Users About Web Browsers

Google have launched a website in an effort to teach users about their web browser.

WhatBrowser.org provides a 1 minute introductory video to describe what a web browser is, some tips for the users current browser and the opportunity to try a new browser, with links to all the major browser vendors.

Its an interesting move. Clearly the hope is that by informing users they will choose to upgrade to a modern web browser, perhaps Google’s own Chrome.

Of course, its no coincidence that this comes less than 3 weeks before the launch of Windows, which is set to feature a browser “ballot screen” in Europe following pressure from the European Union.

Update 2019-01-10: WhatBrowser.org is no longer online. Presumably because Chrome is now the market leader! Browse Happy is a site ran by Wordpress that has the same goal and is not aligned to a browser vendor.
